Starting with the next post, I will be offering interpretations and my understanding of each of the nine Satanic sins. Each "sin" represents an undesirable behavior which Satanists should work to rid themselves of. Further, Satanists must review the sins periodically to ensure they are not falling into the behavior admonished against in each of the sins. The sins are quite straightforward and text in the Satanic Bible (as well as on the Church's website) serves to make clear the meaning behind each one. However, the reasoning may not be so clear and an expose of their meaning is well serving.

The sins are as follows.

  • Stupidity
  • Pretentiousness
  • Solipsism
  • Self-deceit
  • Herd Conformity
  • Lack of Perspective
  • Forgetfulness of Past Orthodoxies
  • Counterproductive Pride
  • Lack of Aesthetics
No matter how devout a Satanist is, it is nigh impossible to be free from committing any of these sins at all times. Indeed, many of the sins are human traits, ingrained in us from an early age, and though we strive to better ourselves by steering clear of any infractions, even the best of us slip once in a while. Certainly 100% adherence to avoiding all of the sins is an admirable goal but failing to attain that lofty pursuit does not disqualify a person from being a Satanist. The recognition of the sins and the efforts made to avoid them are part of what makes the Satanist part of the "Alien Elite."

Future posts will cover each one of these sins in-depth and attempt to cut to the core of the intent of each one. They will also attempt to provide concrete examples of both the wrong behavior warned against in the sin and the possible consequences of committing the sin.
